About Us

Yew Tree Dairy ltd is one of the UK’s largest family owned and operated milk processing companies. Established in 1904, it has grown both nationally and internationally through its reputation for producing high quality dairy products. Yew Tree Dairy’s new state of the art processing facility is capable of processing high volumes of milk daily, producing a range of liquid milks and creams for the UK domestic market and a full range of Milk Powders for both domestic and international markets.

A potted history of Yew Tree Dairy

Yew Tree dairy origins start back in the early 1900s with the purchase of a dairy farm. Initially just dairy farmers who then spread into selling milk locally direct to households with raw milk from a can! For many years this was the operation with the milk produced on the farm being sold locally

Through the 70s and 80s the business grew as a doorstep business with more areas supplied, more milk rounds developed and the processing dairy on the farm getting bigger and better with milk now being bought in from the Milk Marketing Board to cover the growing volumes.

It was in the 90s that the business really started to fly. As milk supply started to move from the doorstep to shops, YT followed this trend and stared supplying many of the shops in the local. The dairy too grew with bigger processing equipment and the production of cartoned milk then plastic bottles for wholesale.

The growth continued in the new century, until it became clear that the farm site would no longer be ideal to support this growth. So in 2008 a new site was found and in 2010 the new state of the art dairy opened and all… Read more…

So in 2008 a new site was found and in 2010 the new state of the art dairy opened and all activities moved from Coppull to Skelmersdale

Since 2012 the number of filling lines have been increased from 4 to 7, two blow moulders have been installed to bring the plastic bottle production in house and larger pasteurisers added to cope with increasing volumes.

It was at this time that the UK government announced that milk quotas would be removed allowing farmers to basically produce as much milk as they choose. Reading this news well the Woodcock family realised that after quotas were lifted the volumes of UK milk produced would increase, and with fresh milk markets slowly contracting this would lead to surplus milk. So, the idea of building a milk drier was born and instead of bringing in a design and build company to do this the family decided the best option was to bring this is house as much as possible and basically build it on site.

In 2014 work started on a spray drier with the two year project coming to an end in 2016 with the commissioning of the drier and at a perfect time as milk volumes in the UK had grown well above the markets requirements. This resulted in the country literally being awash with milk in 2015 and milk prices crashing. The drier was therefore in huge demand to help the industry deal with such surplus milk.
